Trivia

  • The ᐃᑯᒪ in the title is the Inuktitut (the Inuit language) spelling of ikuma (pron. ee-KOO-mah) - which means "flame" or "light".
  • IKUMA is inspired by the failed Franklin expedition of 1845. Its tragic fate and the century-long mystery of what happened to them is the basis for the lost expedition our protagonist Sam finds on his adventure.
  • German explorer Alexander von Humboldt lends his name to our in-game expedition. While he did not explore the Arctic in his time, in this way we bring a bit of our German roots into the historical context of the game.
  • The Ijiraq - or Ijirait (the plural form) - we mention in our trailer is a creature from real Inuit myths. They are elusive shapeshifters inhabiting a place between the worlds of the living and the dead.
  • Hulk - the sailor telling ghost stories in our trailer - wears tattoos of his adventures that tell of other Inuit myths like the sea goddess Sedna, the legendary hero Kiviuq, or the child-snatching Qalupalik.
